A one-of-a-kind training session tailored to your goals.

Instructor: Shota Sugawara (Head Instructor / Aikido 4th Dan)

All private lessons are personally taught by Head Instructor Shota Sugawara. He focuses intensely on individual challenges that cannot be addressed in group training.

  • 15+ years of teaching experience (teaching consistently since founding the dojo in 2010)
  • Extensive experience teaching in English (students from the US, Europe, Australia, Asia, and more)
  • Logical teaching style from an IT industry background (explains the reasoning behind each technique)
  • All levels welcome: beginners to dan holders (curriculum designed from scratch based on your goals and level)

“Every person has different challenges. That’s exactly why private lessons allow me to focus thoroughly on the areas that group training can’t reach.” — Shota Sugawara

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from first-time visitors.

Q. Do I need martial arts or aikido experience?
A. No, not at all. Over half of our students started with no martial arts experience. Beginners learn from how to fall safely; advanced students refine specific techniques — we design the training to match your level.
Q. Do I need to bring weapons (bokken, jo, tanto)?
A. No. Bokken (wooden sword), jo (staff), and tanto (knife) are all kept on-site at our dedicated dojo. Come empty-handed. Some students eventually choose to bring their own weapons once they have a feel for what suits them.
Q. Do I need a dogi (aikido uniform)? Are rentals available?
A. For the trial lesson, comfortable workout clothes (T-shirt and long pants) are fine. For ongoing students we recommend buying a dogi, but free dogi rental is available on request.
Q. Can I take private lessons even if I train in another style (e.g. Aikikai)?
A. Absolutely. Our private students include Aikikai dan holders, practitioners of other styles, and people with martial arts backgrounds. We can also design instruction that integrates with the practice at your home dojo.
Q. How often should I take lessons to make real progress?
A. We recommend a pace of once every 2 weeks to once a month, sustained for at least 3 months. The real progress comes from treating what you learn in private lessons as homework for your regular practice or self-training.
Q. Can I cancel or reschedule?
A. Yes. Free rescheduling is available until 17:00 the day before the lesson. Cancellations after that count as one used session — please book carefully.
Q. Can children take private lessons?
A. Yes, from elementary school age. We adjust the content for younger students. Parent-child sessions are also possible — please ask.
Q. Do you offer lessons on weekends?
A. Unfortunately, no. Private lessons are available on weekdays only — weekends are reserved for our regular group classes.
